Academic Governess / Governor / After-School Tutor – Belgravia, London
Part-Time | 25–30 Hours per Week | £30–£40 per Hour DOE | Three Boys Aged 8 and 10 (Twins)
Burlington Nannies is working with a private family in Belgravia who are seeking an academically strong, engaging and highly organised Academic Governess, Governor or After-School Tutor to support their three school-aged boys, aged 8 and 10-year-old twins.
This is a dedicated educational role, ideally suited to an experienced teacher, tutor, governess or governor who enjoys taking genuine ownership of children’s academic progress, organisation and intellectual development.
The family already has excellent support in place for meals, household duties and general childcare. The focus of this position is therefore firmly on the children’s education, homework, academic organisation and enrichment.
Role Details
Location: Belgravia, London
Schedule: Monday to Friday, approximately 3:00/3:30pm–7:30/8:00pm, plus one five-hour half-day at the weekend
Hours: Approximately 25–30 hours per week
Salary: £30–£40 per hour, depending on experience
Start Date: To be agreed
Driving: Not required
Contract: Part-time, with the potential for the role and hours to expand over time
The Role
The successful candidate will become an important part of the children’s academic lives, providing calm structure, thoughtful guidance and purposeful enrichment during the after-school period.
This is much more than simply supervising homework. The family is looking for someone proactive who can maintain an overview of the children’s schoolwork, learning habits, deadlines, extracurricular commitments and overall academic organisation.
You will support the boys as they progress through Key Stage 2 and prepare for the transition into Key Stage 3, helping them develop confidence in their core subjects while encouraging increasingly independent learning habits.
The family would particularly value someone who genuinely enjoys books, ideas and learning and who can make the after-school period both productive and engaging.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee homework, reading, revision and school projects.
Encourage and develop strong independent learning habits.
Provide confident academic support across the British curriculum, particularly at Key Stage 2 / Year 6 level.
Support the children as they prepare for the transition into Key Stage 3.
Assist with English, mathematics and broader academic development.
Maintain an organised overview of school communications, assignments, deadlines and academic progress.
Coordinate extracurricular activities and liaise with external tutors or educational providers where appropriate.
Create a structured, stimulating and engaging after-school routine.
Encourage curiosity through books, discussion, projects and age-appropriate enrichment.
Accompany the children to activities.
Collect one child from school on foot when required.
Encourage confidence, organisation and increasing independence in all aspects of the children’s education.
Candidate Requirements
The family is looking for an intelligent, warm and engaging candidate who can combine excellent academic ability with a natural rapport with children.
You should be:
Academically strong, with an excellent understanding of the British curriculum and progression from Key Stage 2 into Key Stage 3.
Confident supporting English, mathematics and wider academic development.
Degree educated or able to demonstrate equivalent academic and professional experience.
Experienced as a teacher, tutor, governess, governor, educational mentor or within a comparable educational role.
Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to take genuine ownership of the children’s academic routine.
Warm, engaging and able to build positive and motivating relationships with school-aged children.
Passionate about books, ideas, education and learning.
Creative in your approach to enrichment and able to make learning enjoyable.
An excellent communicator with strong spoken and written English.
A non-smoker.
Able to provide excellent references and willing to undergo the appropriate background checks.
Important
This is not a housekeeping or traditional nanny position. There is no responsibility for cooking, cleaning or general household duties.
The family is specifically looking for an educationally focused professional who can become a valuable and consistent academic presence in the boys’ lives, supporting not only their schoolwork but also their confidence, curiosity, organisation and enjoyment of learning.
