Schedule: Monday to Friday, 3:00pm–9:00pm
Salary: £70,000–£90,000 gross per annum, depending on experience
Driver: Essential
Child: One child, aged 9

Role Overview

Burlington Nannies is currently working with a long-standing client in Kensington who is seeking a highly educated and experienced Governor or Governess / Tutor to support the care and education of their 9-year-old daughter.

She is a bright, intelligent and emotionally mature child who attends school full-time. The successful candidate will be responsible for school pick-up each afternoon, therefore a confident driver is essential.

This is a predominantly academic role and would suit an accomplished Governor, Governess or Private Tutor who can provide a high standard of educational support while also becoming a positive, dependable presence in the child's day-to-day life.

Academic Responsibilities

A particularly strong command of English, both written and spoken, is essential. The successful candidate will oversee and support the child's English studies, with a strong focus on grammar, reading, comprehension and written work.

You should be confident reviewing her writing, developing her vocabulary and ensuring consistently high standards of written and spoken English.

The candidate must also be comfortable supporting Mathematics through to GCSE level and have a proven track record of preparing or supporting children for the 11+ and 13+ examinations.

The family is looking for someone who can recognise the child's academic strengths, identify areas requiring further development and provide engaging, structured support that complements her schooling.

Household & Team Environment

This is a formal, fully staffed household, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of an established team is extremely important.

A rota Governor and a rota Governess/Nanny are also employed within the household and work on a two-week rotation. You will work alongside and support one another, ensuring consistency and excellent communication regarding the child's education, activities and general wellbeing.

Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills are therefore essential. The household operates collaboratively, and everyone is expected to contribute where appropriate.

Although this position has a strong academic focus, the successful candidate must also be comfortable assisting with occasional care-related duties. For example, you may occasionally be asked to heat and serve the child's dinner, which will have been prepared by the household Chef.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Be educated to Degree level or above

  • Have previous experience working in a comparable Governor, Governess or Private Tutor role

  • Demonstrate an excellent command of written and spoken English

  • Have strong knowledge of English grammar, literature, reading and written composition

  • Be confident supporting Mathematics through to GCSE level

  • Have proven experience supporting 11+ and 13+ preparation

  • Hold a full driving licence and be a confident driver

  • Have experience working within a formal or fully staffed private household

  • Possess excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Be comfortable working collaboratively within an established household team

  • Be professional, discreet, adaptable and highly organised

Native-level English is strongly preferred, as English is the family's second language and developing an excellent standard of spoken and written English is an important part of the position.

Accommodation

The position can be offered on either a daily or live-in basis.

For candidates requiring accommodation, a separate apartment will be provided during working days, offering privacy and independence away from the family home.

Application

This is a highly specific position, and applicants should carefully consider the requirements before applying.

Please only apply if you meet the criteria outlined above. Unfortunately, we are unable to respond to applicants who do not meet the essential requirements.
