Burlington Nannies is delighted to be assisting a longstanding private client in the beautiful West Sussex countryside with the recruitment of an experienced and dedicated Domestic Couple.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a professional couple who take genuine pride in their work and enjoy being part of a well-established household team. The positions are based on an impressive private country estate in Pulborough, home to a busy family with three school-aged children and a variety of much-loved animals.

The successful couple will work closely with the House Manager and wider estate team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running, presentation, maintenance and security of the family home.

A separate two-bedroom apartment nearby is provided, offering the couple their own private living space.

The Housekeeping Position

The Housekeeper will play an important role in maintaining the home to an excellent standard, ensuring that it remains beautifully presented, organised and welcoming.

Working alongside a small housekeeping team and reporting to the House Manager, responsibilities will include:

  • Daily cleaning, tidying and presentation of the family home, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and reception rooms.

  • Laundry, ironing, linen care and preparing bedrooms for family members and guests.

  • Maintaining high standards of organisation throughout the property.

  • Coordinating household supplies, inventories, grocery orders and deliveries.

  • Preparing drinks, refreshments and simple home-style meals, including light cooking when the family chef is off duty.

  • Assisting with guest arrivals, table settings, informal dining and private events.

  • Liaising with contractors and supporting the smooth running of household operations.

  • Supporting the nanny with children's laundry and bedroom preparation when required.

  • Assisting with the care of the family's dogs, cats and other estate animals as needed.

  • Carrying out periodic deep cleaning, seasonal household checks and maintaining outbuildings.

  • Providing regular updates to the House Manager regarding completed tasks and household requirements.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, hands-on Housekeeper with a natural eye for detail, excellent organisational skills and a calm, proactive approach.

The Maintenance, Security & Chauffeur Position

The second position is varied and practical, combining general property maintenance, technical support, driving and estate security responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be confident taking initiative, identifying potential issues and ensuring that the property, its facilities and vehicles remain in excellent working order.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting daily property inspections and checking lighting, heating, climate control, entertainment, water and security systems.

  • Attending to general repairs, maintenance, decorating touch-ups and minor technical issues.

  • Maintaining outdoor areas, terraces, garden furniture, swimming pool and tennis court facilities.

  • Carrying out regular checks of fencing, boundaries, external lighting and estate security.

  • Monitoring CCTV and security systems and assisting with contractor supervision.

  • Participating in an on-site warden rota, responding promptly to alarms, power failures and other urgent household matters.

  • Maintaining household vehicles, including cleaning, fuelling, safety checks and coordinating servicing.

  • Chauffeuring the Principal between West Sussex, London and airports, with occasional school runs when required.

  • Assisting with the upkeep of garages, storage areas, estate cottages and outbuildings.

  • Supporting seasonal maintenance, including fireplaces, BBQ facilities and outdoor equipment.

  • Assisting with designated animal care tasks involving the estate's Highland cattle, horses and chickens.

  • Working closely with the House Manager, Estate Manager and private office to coordinate maintenance schedules and improvements.

A formal qualification in a trade would be highly advantageous, although strong practical experience and a proven background in private household maintenance are equally important.

About the Household

The family have three children aged between 9 and 11, who are cared for by a rotational nanny. The estate is also home to two cats, three dogs, Highland cattle, horses and chickens.

Both candidates must be comfortable around children and animals and enjoy working within a busy, welcoming family environment.

The family travel during school holidays, and the household team works together to ensure the property continues to be maintained and cared for in their absence.

The Ideal Couple

We are seeking an established, reliable and professional Domestic Couple who can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience working in private households, with a strong understanding of domestic service.

  • Longevity and commitment in previous similar positions.

  • Excellent standards of presentation, organisation and attention to detail.

  • A practical, flexible and hands-on approach to their respective responsibilities.

  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English.

  • Discretion, confidentiality and respect for the family's privacy.

  • A positive, cooperative attitude towards working alongside other household staff.

  • Confidence and comfort around children and animals.

  • A full, clean UK driving licence for both candidates.

  • Willingness to work weekends as part of a seven-day household rota.

Working Hours & Accommodation

Both positions operate on a five-day working week, with eight-hour shifts scheduled between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Sunday.

Two days off per week will be provided, with the rota arranged around family movements and the operational requirements of the household.

The Maintenance/Security candidate will also participate in an on-site warden rota, requiring flexibility to respond to urgent matters outside normal working hours. Any planned absence from the property must be coordinated in advance to ensure appropriate cover.

A separate two-bedroom apartment nearby is included with the position.

Salary & Application

£80,000 gross per annum for the couple, negotiable depending on experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Domestic Couple seeking a long-term position within a well-managed private country estate.
