Live-In Nanny / Governess – Oxford

Burlington Nannies is seeking an experienced, educated and nurturing Nanny/Governess to join a fully staffed private household based in Oxford, caring for two school-aged children.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional candidate with a strong educational background who enjoys supporting children’s development within a warm, structured and engaging family environment. Candidates with previous teaching experience who are looking to transition into a private household role are particularly encouraged to apply.

Position Details

· Location: Oxford
· Salary: £60,000–£70,000 gross per annum (DOE)
· Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday (Sunday and Monday off)
· Working Hours: 6:30am–8:00pm, with a three-hour afternoon break
· Accommodation: Private bedroom and bathroom provided within the family’s Oxford home while on duty
· Days Off: The Oxford accommodation is available during working days only and the candidate will be required to vacate the family home for their days off on Sunday and Monday
· London Accommodation: For candidates who are not based in Oxford, the family can provide the use of their separate London apartment on Sunday and Monday
· Travel: Extensive international travel required
· Start Date: ASAP, although the family is happy to accommodate a suitable candidate’s notice period

Accommodation

This is a live-in-while-on-duty position. From Tuesday to Saturday, the successful candidate will have their own private bedroom and bathroom within the family’s Oxford home, providing comfortable and private accommodation throughout the working week.

Please note that the Oxford accommodation is not available during the candidate’s days off. The candidate will therefore be required to leave the family home following their duties on Saturday and return for the start of their working week on Tuesday morning.

For candidates who are not based locally, the family can also provide the use of their separate London apartment on Sunday and Monday, allowing them to spend their days off in London before returning to Oxford for work on Tuesday.

Working Hours

The position will run Tuesday to Saturday, from 6:30am until approximately 8:00pm, with a three-hour afternoon break each day.

The candidate will commence at 6:30am and work until approximately 12:00pm, followed by the afternoon break. They will then return for school pick-ups, after-school activities and the children’s evening and bedtime routines, finishing at approximately 8:00pm.

The family travels extensively during every school holiday and throughout the summer. Candidates must therefore be highly flexible and comfortable accompanying the family internationally for extended periods.

· Supporting the children’s educational development, homework and additional learning requirements.
· Planning stimulating, engaging and age-appropriate activities.
· Managing school routines, schedules and extracurricular activities.
· Assisting with school pick-ups, after-school activities and bedtime routines.
· Encouraging independence, confidence and curiosity.
· Accompanying the family on international travel during school holidays.
· Working collaboratively with the parents and wider household team.
· Providing a consistent, nurturing and supportive environment for both children.

Candidate Requirements

· Previous teaching experience is highly desirable, ideally within a school environment.
· Experience supporting school-aged children and their educational development.
· A calm, patient, nurturing and engaging personality.
· Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
· Proactive, adaptable and comfortable working within a fully staffed private household.
· Discreet, professional and able to maintain the family’s privacy.
· Willingness to travel internationally for extended periods.
· Comfortable working in a household with pets.
